In order to get things done properly, there are certain steps you need to know even if you hired people or professionals for help. When it comes to roof replacement, the same rules apply. The steps may not be necessarily be done by your own effort but as guide to make sure you know what your hired experts are doing. Take it as your research job.

  1. Set things up before the replacement process

The replacement process needs a lot of throwing out before the process of replacement starts. You need to get rid of the roofing you already have or set aside your roofing if it is metal as it can still be used for other things. Grab a container and have it placed as near to your house to make throwing things easier from the roof. To make sure it is safe for throwing from a certain height, grab some cloth and lay them down where the container is located to prevent any particles spread out if ever you accidentally don’t hit the target or the container once you throw something. In doing so, be sure to have a safety gear on to avoid any injuries.

  1. Out with the old in with new

Before you can set up your new roofing, you need to clear out the old roofing you have. Always start from the top as you start with the process. First, get rid of the shingles that covers where two roofing sheets meet also known as ridge cap and through that you have better access at getting to the ripping away the other shingles.

  1. Get rid of the old flashing

The flashing’s job is to make sure that there is no water that can penetrate or seep in to the joints of your roof. This can be located in the valleys of your roof, your chimney and your vents. Check if the old flashing needs replacement, if so, make sure you provide a flashing which is high quality and make sure after you’ve replaced it, you seal it properly.

  1. Underlayment

The underlayment in your roof is important because it will catch any water to make sure that if any water seeps in through the roof, your roof will get away with any rotting or damping problem.

Make sure that before you set down the underlayment, you have laid a barrier that will keep off any water or ice. After that, you can simply start putting your underlayment and after doing so, follow up with some cap nails. The distance between two cap nails should be between 4 inches and 6 inches.

Make sure that in the process of placing your underlayment, it is overlapped with each other for a tighter grip and better water leakage prevention.

  1. Installation of the new roof

Make sure that when it comes to installation of your new roof, you read the instruction that is found in the manufacturer’s installation manual. If you are dealing with shingles, start at the sides and the bottom going up.
